About

I'm Colin. I build AI systems and software, usually for people trying to run a business across a dozen tools that don't talk to each other.

By day I'm a pricing manager in freight. On the side I run Colin Petty Solutions.

I think in systems, kind of obsessively. I want to understand how people, companies, and the technology underneath them all interlace and move together, and I don't really feel like I get something until I can take it back to first principles. Once a system is that clear, the spots where it's quietly wasting people's time stop being hard to find.

That's the whole job. Take the stuff a person shouldn't be doing by hand and give it to something that does it better, and keep the human on the parts that actually need one.

I also run ultramarathons. I won't pretend that's a metaphor, I just like long, hard things with no shortcut, and a lot of good work turns out to look the same.

Got a pile of tools and not enough hours? That's the kind of thing I fix.
